Prague’s skyline is extraordinary — Gothic spires, Baroque domes, Art Nouveau facades and the distinctive Dancing House all visible from above. The city’s rooftop bars and terraces are among the best ways to experience this panorama — whether over morning coffee, afternoon wine or a cocktail at sunset.
As local Prague tour guides, these are the rooftop spots we recommend most to couples, families and photography enthusiasts visiting the city. Each one offers something distinct — from the iconic Old Town Square view to the Vltava panorama from the Dancing House.
📍Staroměstské náměstí 29, Prague 1 — Old Town Square
Price range: €€€ — expect premium prices for the location
Best for: Iconic Prague Castle view, special occasions, first morning coffee with an unforgettable backdrop
Tip: Book in advance for sunset — tables fill quickly in summer. Weekday mornings are quieter and still offer the full panoramic experience.
Located right on Old Town Square, Hotel U Prince offers one of Prague’s most famous rooftop terraces. While the coffee may cost a little more than elsewhere, the view is priceless — panoramic sights of the city’s rooftops, church spires, and Prague Castle. It’s no surprise that this is where many iconic magazine and travel guide photos are taken. Book a table, or even better, stay the night and wake up in the heart of the city.

📍Mahlerovy sady 1, Prague 3 — Žižkov
Price range: €€€
Best for: Unique 360° panorama, David Černý sculptures, special occasion dining
Tip: The baby sculptures on the tower exterior are best photographed from the ground looking up — allow time before or after your visit.
Getting there: Tram 5, 9 or 26 to Lipanská stop
Rise above the city at the 216-meter-tall TV Tower, home to David Černý’s crawling baby sculptures. At the top, Oblaca Bar & Restaurant offers beautiful panoramic views along with cocktails and fine dining. Want something truly unique? Book the One Room Hotel, a luxury suite perched high in the tower — ideal for a once-in-a-lifetime stay.
📍Staré zámecké schody, Prague 1 — below Prague Castle
Price range: €€
Best for: Wine with vineyard setting, Prague Castle backdrop, quieter alternative to busier rooftops
Seasonal: Open April to October only — closed in winter
Tip: Combine with a walk down the Old Castle Stairs to Malostranská metro — one of Prague’s most scenic descents through medieval lanes.
Enjoy a coffee or glass of wine at Pergola Wine Bistro, tucked among the historic St. Wenceslas Vineyard just below Prague Castle. This seasonal café, part of the elegant Villa Richter complex, offers sweeping views over the city’s rooftops. To reach it, climb the Staré zámecké schody (Old Castle Stairs) from the Malostranská metro station — a scenic ascent well worth the effort.
📍Jiráskovo náměstí 1981/6, Prague 2 — New Town
Price range: €€€
Best for: Couples, romantic evenings, architecture enthusiasts, Vltava River views
Tip: The Ginger & Fred Restaurant below the Glass Bar requires advance booking for dinner. The Glass Bar itself is more accessible — arrive before sunset for the best light on the river.
Getting there: Tram 17 or 21 to Jiráskovo náměstí
Perched atop the iconic Dancing House, designed by Vlado Milunić and Frank Gehry, the Glass Bar offers breathtaking views over the Vltava River, Petřín Hill, and Prague Castle. For a romantic evening, book a table at the Ginger & Fred Restaurant, named after the legendary dance duo that inspired the building’s design. Perfect for special occasions or a memorable date night.

📍U Zlaté studně 166/4, Prague 1 — Malá Strana
Price range: €€€€ — premium fine dining
Best for: Intimate couples dining, Malá Strana rooftop perspective, fine dining
Tip: Book well in advance — this terrace has very limited seating and fills quickly throughout the season.
Hidden above the rooftops of Malá Strana, Terasa U Zlaté Studně — the terrace at the Hotel At the Golden Well — offers one of Prague’s most intimate and spectacular rooftop dining experiences. Looking directly across to Prague Castle and down over the Baroque rooftops of Lesser Town, this terrace is significantly quieter than Hotel U Prince despite
offering views of comparable quality.
📍Vítězná 124/5, Prague 5 — Smíchov
Price range: €€
Best for: Morning coffee, affordable city views, local atmosphere
Tip: Combine with a walk along the Vltava embankment toward Palacký Square — one of Prague’s most pleasant riverside walks.
For a more affordable rooftop experience — the terrace above Café Savoy in Malá Strana offers beautiful views toward Petřín Hill and the city without the premium price tags of the castle-view terraces.
Timing your rooftop visit significantly affects the experience — here is our local guide advice:
Sunset — the most popular time and for good reason. Prague’s golden hour light on the city’s spires and castle is extraordinary. Arrive 30-40 minutes before sunset to secure a table at busy venues like Hotel U Prince.
Morning — our personal favourite for photography. Before 9am most terraces are quiet, the light is soft and the city is waking up below you. Hotel U Prince terrace in particular is magical at 7-8am with almost no other visitors.
After dark — Prague illuminated at night is a completely different and equally beautiful experience. The Glass Bar at the Dancing House is particularly striking after dark with the Vltava River reflections visible from the terrace.
Seasonal note — most Prague rooftop bars are seasonal, typically open April to October. Villa Richter closes entirely in winter. Always check current opening before visiting.
Rooftop bars are one of Prague’s strongest draws for couples — and for good reason. The city’s skyline from above is genuinely romantic in a way few European cities match.
Our recommendations by occasion:
Most romantic sunset — Hotel U Prince terrace overlooking Old Town Square. Book a table by the railing facing the astronomical clock.
Most dramatic — Glass Bar at the Dancing House with the Vltava River curving below and Prague Castle visible in the distance.
Most intimate — Terasa U Zlaté Studně in Malá Strana — smaller, quieter and with a view directly across to the illuminated castle walls at night.
Most memorable splurge — the One Room Hotel at the TV Tower — a single luxury suite perched 70 metres above the city, available to book for a truly once-in-a-lifetime Prague night.

Prague’s rooftop bars are among the city’s best photography locations — here is what to know before you visit with a camera:
Hotel U Prince — the Old Town Square view is best photographed with a wide angle lens capturing the full panorama from the astronomical clock tower to Prague Castle in the distance. Morning light falls from the east directly onto the castle and spires.
Dancing House Glass Bar — the Vltava River curves beautifully from this angle. A longer focal length compresses the river bends and brings the castle closer in the frame.
Villa Richter — the vineyard rows in the foreground with the city behind create an unusual composition unlike any other Prague rooftop view. Particularly good in autumn when the vineyard leaves turn golden.
