Prague

1945 to present

The Dancing House, also known as Ginger and Fred, was built in 1996 and is located on the right bank of the Vltava River in Prague. This place used to be an apartment building that was accidentally destroyed during the US air strikes in Prague in 1945.

Named after the shape of its two turrets, it was inspired by the famous dancer couples Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers during the war. The dancing house was designed by Croatian Czech architect Vlado Milunić in collaboration with American architect Frank O. Gehry.

It is said that Frank accepted the proposal because he was willing to do anything for the country of American hockey player Jaromir Jágr. The interior design of the office was arranged by the Czech British architect Eva Jiricna.
